Compliance with California Fire Codes
In compliance with California Fire Code (CFC) Section 1032.2.1.3 and International Fire Code (IFC) Section 1104.16.5, all fire escapes—including fire escape stairways, fire escape balconies, and fire escape exit pathways—must undergo a thorough inspection every five years. This ensures the structural integrity and compliance with safety regulations. A key part of this inspection is the fire escape load test, which ensures the system can support the necessary weight during an emergency evacuation.
Our Comprehensive Fire Escape & Load Test Services in California
5-Year Fire Escape Inspection
We offer a comprehensive fire escape inspection that covers every element of your system, including:
Stairways
Ladders
Balconies
External exit pathways
Structural Integrity
Our team of inspectors checks for wear and tear, rust, cracks, and any other potential issues that could compromise your fire escape system. This fire escape safety inspection ensures your building complies with California Fire Code requirements.
Fire Escape Load Test
Our fire escape load test is crucial for ensuring the safety of your system. During this test, we apply a minimum of 100 pounds per square foot to verify that the structure can safely hold the required weight in the event of an emergency. This fire escape load test certification is necessary for compliance with California fire escape safety standards.
Certification & Report
Once the inspection and load testing are complete, we provide a fire escape certification report. This report confirms that your fire escape system complies with the California Fire Code and meets the required safety standards. It is essential for passing fire department inspections and for maintaining your building’s safety record.

Section 604 of the San Francisco Housing Code mandates a distinct inspection requirement, separate from CA-SB721. This regulation necessitates that apartment houses, buildings with three or more dwellings, and hotels with six or more guest rooms undergo a comprehensive inspection of all building appendages every five (5) years. Inspections are to be conducted by licensed General Contractors, Engineers, or Pest Controllers.
-
During the Section 604 inspection, a visual assessment of wood and metal decks, balconies, landings, exit corridors, stairway systems, guardrails, handrails, fire escapes, and other components exposed to weather is performed. The objective is to verify that all systems are generally safe, in good working order, and devoid of hazardous dry rot, fungus, and deterioration.
-
It's important to note that compliance with CA-SB721 or CA-SB326 does not exempt one from complying with Section 604. This is because SB721 does not cover fire escapes and metal appendages, which are included in Section 604.

As part of our service, Great Escape Inspection LLC will submit the completed and signed.
